Monster Maze

Monster Maze is an attraction at Sesame Place that has been there since opening day in 1980.

Kids run through a maze of 40 lightweight punching bags.
Faces and monster horns have been added to the bags since opening day.

In the 1980s the signage featured Sesame Street character Frazzle:

The current sign emphasizes safety and declares "no punching bags".

However in 1980 punching was allowed. 

The opening day brochure said "Youngsters can punch, push, shoulder and dodge their way through a forest of 40 six-foot-high lightweight punching bags to get to the other side."

The attraction is located right in front of Ernie's Bed Bounce.

Ernie's Bed Bounce

Ernies' Bed Bounce is an attraction that has been at the park since 1980. It is still open and is one of the few attractions that remains essentially unchanged since the early 1980s.

Children enter a giant inflatable bed and jump up and down.

In the early days of the park parents and kids could jump on the bed together. Today it is restricted to children 7 and under.

1988 coupon and advertisment

Above is a magazine ad from1988. In addition to giving us the chance to save $3 (from May 7 to July 8, 1988) it mentions many attractions including Sesame Streak water slide and Ernie's Bed Bounce.

It also mentions the debut of Sesame Neighborhood, the outdoor Sesame Street replica set. There was already an indoor one:

The indoor replica was part of Sesame Studio, but has since been closed down. 

Also, the ad mentions two new walk-around characters: Prairie Dawn and Grover.

The ad mentions they join the other characters at the park,: Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster and The Honkers.

Of course, admission prices were different in 1988:

$14 for children, $12 for adults. Children under 3 are admitted free. Parking is $2.50
